Yoga in Real Life

Think of the Eight Limbs as your personal life compass. Each limb guides you toward a more mindful, loving, and conscious way of being.

  • Yamas: how we behave in the world (e.g. kindness, honesty, non-harming — Ahimsa)
  • Niyamas: how we care for ourselves (e.g. contentment — Santosha — and self-discipline)
  • Asana: the physical postures that build strength, balance, and body awareness
  • Pranayama: breath practices that calm or energise the system
  • Pratyahara: withdrawing the senses inward to rest and restore
  • Dharana: focusing the mind on one thing at a time
  • Dhyana: meditation — merging focus into a steady flow of awareness
  • Samadhi: a blissful sense of union with something greater than yourself

You don’t need to memorise or master them all today; simply notice which ones already appear in your daily life.
